Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 7: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), through its Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) in Sri Vijaya Puram, has invited students of Classes IX to XII from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to participate in the ICMR SHINE-2026 Reel Making Competition, an initiative aimed at encouraging young people to communicate important public health messages through creative short video reels.
The competition seeks to promote scientific thinking, health education and community engagement by providing students with an opportunity to present public health issues in an innovative and accessible format. According to ICMR-RMRC, participants are expected to create short reels highlighting key public health themes while contributing to awareness on healthier lifestyles and disease prevention.
The initiative is open to eligible students studying in Classes IX to XII across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Through the competition, ICMR aims to encourage students to combine creativity with science communication and public health awareness while engaging with issues of wider community importance.

Entries for the competition will be accepted until August 12, 2026. Students have been advised to follow the official competition guidelines and ensure that their submissions are made within the prescribed deadline.
To facilitate participation, ICMR has advised students to scan the QR code provided in the official competition poster. The QR code will direct participants to ICMR’s official social media handles, where they can access detailed information on the competition, submission process and other related updates.
ICMR-RMRC, Sri Vijaya Puram, has also appealed to schools, teachers and parents across the Islands to encourage eligible students to take part in the competition. The institute said the initiative offers students a platform to showcase their creativity while supporting public health awareness through scientific outreach and meaningful community engagement.
The SHINE-2026 Reel Making Competition forms part of ICMR’s effort to involve young students in health communication by encouraging them to use digital storytelling to spread awareness on public health issues and promote informed, healthier communities.
