Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 25: A joint operation by the South Andaman Police and Forest Department led to the seizure of 23 kg of wild boar meat at New Manglutan, with legal proceedings initiated under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
The operation was conducted by personnel from Humfrygunj Police Station in coordination with the Forest Department after police received information about the alleged possession of wild boar meat. The action took place on August 24, 2026, as part of a wildlife protection operation in the area.
Following the seizure, the recovered meat and the person apprehended in connection with the case were handed over to the Forest Department. The department is taking further legal action under the provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
The case brings the possession of protected wildlife material under scrutiny, with the Forest Department now handling the legal proceedings arising from the seizure.
According to the South Andaman Police, the operation followed information received regarding the possession of the meat at New Manglutan. Police and forest officials subsequently acted together to recover the material and proceed with the case.
The seizure was followed by the transfer of both the recovered material and the apprehended person to the Forest Department for further action in accordance with the applicable law.
The joint operation also involved coordination between the police and forest authorities in responding to the reported wildlife-related offence. The agencies are proceeding with the case under the statutory provisions cited in the seizure.
The Forest Department will now take forward the legal proceedings concerning the seized wild boar meat and the person handed over to it.
The operation underscores the enforcement action being undertaken by the South Andaman Police and Forest Department in cases involving wildlife protection. Further proceedings in the case will be governed by the applicable provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
