Sri Vijaya Puram, April 24: A three-day book exhibition marking World Book and Copyright Day 2026 opened at the State Library in Middle Point, bringing focus to reading culture and public access to literature.
Organised by the Education Department, the exhibition is being held from April 23 to April 25 and features around 702 books across a wide range of subjects. The collection includes novels, children’s literature, personality development titles, competitive examination guides, biographies, cookery, mythology, fantasy, science fiction, and books on the history of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Archana Singh, Principal and Nodal Officer of the State Library, who highlighted the importance of cultivating reading habits and strengthening the role of libraries in society. She emphasised that libraries serve as centres of learning, knowledge repositories, and accessible community resources.
The event is open to the public daily from 9 AM to 7 PM during the three-day period, allowing visitors to explore the collection and engage with diverse literary content. The initiative aims to encourage reading among students, youth, and the general public by providing access to a broad spectrum of books under one platform.
Officials stated that the exhibition is part of efforts to promote literacy and awareness about the value of books in education and personal development. By showcasing varied genres, the programme seeks to cater to readers with different interests and academic needs.
The observance of World Book and Copyright Day is intended to highlight the role of books in knowledge dissemination and cultural development, while also encouraging communities to engage more actively with reading resources.
With participation expected from students and the public, the exhibition underscores the continuing importance of libraries in supporting education and intellectual growth.
