Students Gain Hands on Training in Space Communication at Sri Vijaya Puram Science Centre

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 24: A practical-focused workshop on space communication concluded at the Science Centre in Sri Vijaya Puram, providing students with hands-on exposure to satellite technologies and real-time tracking systems.

The programme, held from April 20 to April 22 in collaboration with DECIBEL – An Academy for Applied Space Communication, Bangalore, brought together students from various schools to engage in interactive learning sessions aimed at bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application.

The workshop centred on emerging concepts in satellite communication, with a focus on real-time tracking technologies and their applications. Participants were introduced to methods of observing and understanding space communication systems through guided demonstrations and technical sessions.

The valedictory function took place at the Science Centre auditorium, where Senior Scientist and Manager at ISRO/ISTRAC, Debdas Paik, attended as the chief guest. He distributed certificates to participants and interacted with students, noting their engagement and interest in the subject.

During the session, the chief guest highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting scientific learning and practical understanding among students. He acknowledged the role of collaborative efforts between institutions and technical experts in enhancing educational outreach.

The workshop sessions were led by B.A. Subramani, Simulation Engineer from the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre, Bangalore, who served as the resource person. He provided insights into satellite tracking systems and demonstrated how simple and cost-effective antennas can be built and used to monitor satellites and capture images from space objects in real time.

Students actively participated in the demonstrations, gaining exposure to techniques that connect classroom learning with real-world scientific applications. The sessions aimed to develop curiosity and technical understanding in the field of space science.

Earlier, Education Officer of the Science Centre, Debashis Paul, welcomed participants and encouraged continued engagement with scientific programmes and learning platforms offered by the centre.

The workshop forms part of ongoing efforts to promote science education and hands-on learning experiences among students, with a focus on emerging technologies and applied research fields.
