Applications Invited From Women Artists for Lalit Kala Akademi General Council Nomination

The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has invited applications from eligible women artists for nomination to the General Council of the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. The nomination process is being conducted as part of the constitution of a new General Council under the Akademi’s Memorandum of Association. Applicants must be eminent personalities in the field of visual and plastic arts and should not have previously served on the Akademi’s General Council or committees. Applications can be submitted till May 25, 2026.

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 13: The Lalit Kala Akademi, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has requested the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to recommend a panel of three names for nomination of one member to the General Council of the Akademi.

The process for constituting a new General Council has been initiated in accordance with Clause 5(vii) of the Memorandum of Association of the Akademi.

The provision requires each State and Union Territory to recommend three names in alphabetical order, including at least one woman candidate, for consideration.

Officials said the nominees should be eminent personalities who have made significant contributions in the field of visual and plastic arts. Applicants are also required to provide documentary records supporting their work and achievements.

As per the eligibility criteria, individuals who have previously served as members of the General Council or any committee of the Lalit Kala Akademi are not eligible for nomination.

The tenure of the nominated member will be three years, and a person can serve a maximum of two non-successive terms.

Authorities stated that since no application from any eligible woman artist from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was received within the earlier stipulated time period, fresh applications are now being invited exclusively from eminent women artists of the Islands.

Interested candidates have been asked to submit their bio-data along with present address, contact details, email ID and supporting documents to the Director (Arts and Culture), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Cellular Jail Complex, Sri Vijaya Puram.

Applications may also be sent through email at artand.culture@and.nic.in.

The last date for submission of applications is May 25, 2026.

Officials said the nomination process offers an opportunity for representation of the artistic community of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at the national level through participation in the General Council of the Lalit Kala Akademi.

The Akademi functions as India’s National Academy of Art and plays a role in promoting and supporting visual arts and artists across the country.
