Sri Vijaya Puram, June 23: The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has reported extensive outreach under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – 100 Days Intensified Campaign, with thousands of residents screened and 101 tuberculosis cases identified between March 24 and June 19, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen early detection and treatment across the islands.
Implemented in accordance with national guidelines, the campaign has focused on expanding access to tuberculosis screening, diagnosis and community awareness through a network of health camps and public engagement initiatives. The programme forms part of the national drive to eliminate tuberculosis and improve public health outcomes through early intervention and timely treatment.
Data released by the Administration shows that 728 health camps were organised under the Ayushman Arogya Shivirs initiative during the reporting period. Of these, 198 camps were conducted in urban areas and 530 in rural regions, while seven camps were held in congregate settings and nine in other locations.

The camps recorded a cumulative footfall of 32,352 people. The participants included 14,770 males and 17,582 females, reflecting widespread public participation in the campaign across different parts of the Union Territory.
As part of the tuberculosis screening programme, authorities registered 8,459 Nikshay enrolments, including new registrations and new episodes. Health teams also carried out 9,674 chest X-rays and conducted 2,234 Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (NAAT), which are used to support the diagnosis of tuberculosis.
The screening and diagnostic efforts resulted in the notification of 101 tuberculosis cases, enabling authorities to initiate timely treatment and follow-up measures for affected individuals. Officials said the campaign has prioritised identifying cases at an early stage to reduce the burden of the disease and strengthen patient care.
Alongside medical interventions, the campaign placed significant emphasis on community participation and public awareness. A total of 154 Janbhagidari and community engagement activities were organised to encourage public involvement in the fight against tuberculosis.
The outreach efforts involved 182 elected representatives, including 19 members from Urban Local Bodies and 162 representatives from Panchayati Raj Institutions. Educational institutions also played a role in the campaign, with 126 awareness activities conducted in schools and colleges.
In addition, 21 activities were organised in line ministries, while two programmes involved public sector undertakings, corporates and business associations. Five My Bharat Volunteers supported the campaign’s outreach initiatives and community engagement efforts.
The Administration has urged residents to actively participate in tuberculosis prevention and control measures. It reiterated its commitment to achieving a TB-free Andaman & Nicobar Islands through sustained public health interventions, stronger healthcare delivery systems and continued community participation.
