Special tax drive records high collection, next round on Dec 13

Date:

A special municipal tax collection drive conducted across Sri Vijaya Puram recorded a strong public turnout, with residents responding positively to the administration’s latest effort to improve civic revenue mobilisation. The drive, held at multiple locations including the Delanipur Community Hall, the Electricity Site Office in Prem Nagar and the municipal headquarters, resulted in a cumulative collection of Rs 57,00,963. Officials said the response reflects increasing public cooperation and awareness regarding the importance of timely tax payments for local development.

The initiative was organised as part of the municipal council’s ongoing efforts to make civic services more accessible and ensure that residents have convenient options to clear pending dues. Municipal representatives said that decentralising the collection process allowed citizens from different wards to participate without having to rely solely on the main office. By using community facilities and sector-based outreach, the council aimed to ease congestion and make the process more citizen-friendly.

The campaign witnessed steady participation throughout the day, with residents arriving at the designated centers to clear various municipal taxes. Officials said the drive was particularly focused on helping people settle long-standing dues and encouraging those who had missed earlier deadlines to complete their payments. Staff were deployed at all three locations to assist citizens with documentation, clarify tax structures and facilitate smooth transactions.

According to the municipality, the large turnout also reflects growing understanding among residents about how civic revenue contributes to improving public amenities, infrastructure upgrades and essential urban services. As the city continues to expand, officials pointed out that timely tax collection becomes essential for maintaining roads, street lighting, waste management systems and other core services that directly affect daily life.

The municipal council stressed that improving revenue collection is not merely a financial exercise but also a way to strengthen civic responsibility among residents. Officials added that engaging citizens through periodic drives helps build trust and encourages compliance, especially among those who may otherwise delay payments due to procedural concerns or lack of awareness. The administration intends to continue such outreach-based collections in different wards over the coming months.

For residents who were unable to participate in the latest drive, the municipality has announced another special collection session scheduled for December 13. The next round will be held at Ward 8 in the Buniyadabad Community Hall as well as the municipal headquarters. Citizens will be able to pay all categories of municipal taxes at these locations. Officials encouraged residents to use the opportunity to avoid penalties or delays, noting that increased compliance helps the municipality implement development works more efficiently.

The council also highlighted that these campaigns create opportunities for residents to interact directly with municipal staff, enabling them to address concerns related to tax slabs, payment procedures or queries about property assessments. Engaging with citizens in person helps resolve misunderstandings and provides clarity on how tax contributions are utilised in maintaining and expanding urban infrastructure.

The administration reported that the system adopted during the latest drive, having multiple collection points, extended public hours and dedicated staff—helped streamline the process. Many citizens expressed appreciation for the convenient setup, stating that the decentralised approach reduced waiting time and made tax payment more manageable. Officials said that these insights will guide future campaigns to ensure even smoother operations and better participation.

With another drive scheduled and plans to extend similar initiatives across additional wards, the municipality aims to strengthen its revenue base while enhancing transparency and accessibility. The administration stated that consistent public cooperation remains crucial for sustaining the city’s development goals and improving civic services. The success of the latest collection drive, reflected in the significant amount collected, marks a positive step towards more efficient municipal governance.
