Sri Vijaya Puram, June 24: The South Andaman District Administration has reclaimed approximately 1,000 square metres of government revenue land at Neil Kendra Village in Shaheed Dweep as part of its ongoing campaign against encroachments, reinforcing its stated zero-tolerance policy towards unauthorized occupation of public property in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The eviction operation was carried out on Wednesday under the administration’s continuing efforts to protect community assets and restore government land allegedly occupied through unauthorized activities. During the drive, officials identified and removed encroachments in the form of unauthorized plantations raised on government revenue land.
According to the administration, the reclaimed area measuring around 1,000 square metres has been restored to government records following the removal of the encroachments.
The action forms part of a broader district-wide initiative aimed at monitoring and recovering public land from unauthorized occupation. Officials stated that the administration has intensified surveillance and enforcement measures in recent days across South Andaman to ensure lawful use of government property.
Authorities reiterated that encroachment on government land will not be tolerated and warned that strict legal action would be initiated against individuals found occupying public land without authorization. The administration emphasized that enforcement measures would continue under relevant provisions of law wherever violations are detected.
The drive also highlights ongoing efforts to safeguard public resources and ensure that government land remains available for legitimate community purposes. Officials maintained that protecting public property is essential for planned development and effective utilization of land resources across the islands.
Residents have been urged to refrain from any unauthorized occupation of government land and to cooperate with authorities in preventing encroachments. The administration has also appealed to citizens to report instances of illegal occupation and encroachment.
For public assistance and reporting of such activities, citizens may contact the District Control Room on 03192-240127, 03192-238881 or 1070. Information can also be shared through WhatsApp at 9531888844. Authorities stated that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
