Inter-School Primary Football Tournament Produces Close Wins in South Andaman

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 6: The Inter-School Primary Level Football Knockout Tournament for Boys and Girls 2026 continued in South Andaman with a series of closely contested matches, as schools progressed to the next stage of the competition being organised by the Deputy Education Office to encourage sports participation among young students.

The tournament is being conducted at the Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Bhatubasti Ground under the aegis of the Deputy Education Office, South Andaman. Matches played on the day produced victories in both the boys’ and girls’ categories, with several teams advancing after narrow contests.

In the boys’ category, Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), RBV registered a 1-0 victory over GSSS Bhatubasti. Government Middle School (GMS), Dollygunj also secured a 1-0 win against Government Senior School (GSS), Delanipur. In another fixture, SSS Sagaritara defeated Government Primary School (GPS), Indira Nagar by an identical 1-0 margin.

The girls’ category witnessed a commanding performance by Government Middle School (GMS), Humfreygunj, which defeated GSSS School Line 5-0. In another closely fought encounter, Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Aberdeen overcame Government Middle School (GMS), Mariamman Temple by 1-0 through a tie-breaker to move ahead in the tournament.

The ongoing knockout competition has brought together primary school teams from across South Andaman, providing students with an opportunity to compete in an organised sporting environment while representing their respective schools.

According to the Education Department, the tournament reflects its continued efforts to strengthen sports culture in schools and encourage children to participate in sporting activities from an early age. The initiative aims to promote competitive sports at the primary level while providing a platform for young football players to develop their skills through inter-school competition.

The tournament will continue with further knockout matches as participating schools compete for progression in the 2026 Inter-School Primary Level Football Tournament.
