Sri Vijaya Puram, November 6: Pending land disputes, delays in record corrections and concerns over proposed beach management plans featured among the issues raised by residents of Shaheed Dweep during a public grievance hearing conducted by the South Andaman District Administration on November 5. The administration has deputed a surveyor to the island to expedite pending subdivision, demarcation and land set-apart cases, while an Islander Card correction camp will begin on November 6.
The Janta Darshan took place at Gram Panchayat, Neil Kendra, under the chairpersonship of the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, following directions from the Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), departmental officials and local residents attended the meeting and brought forward issues requiring intervention from government departments.
During the interaction, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned Heads of Departments to take prompt action on the grievances and ensure the effective delivery of essential public services to island residents.

To address delays in land-related matters, the administration has stationed a surveyor at Patwarkhana, Shaheed Dweep, for field-level action on pending subdivision, demarcation and land set-apart cases. The arrangement is intended to accelerate the processing of these matters.
Residents seeking corrections to their Islander Card records will be able to approach the correction camp scheduled to commence at Patwarkhana on November 6. The facility will assist eligible residents in making necessary changes to their records.
The proposed Bharatpur and Sitapur Beach Management Plans also came up for discussion, with residents presenting their concerns and suggestions. The Deputy Commissioner heard the views raised during the interaction for consideration by the departments concerned.

During the island visit, the Deputy Commissioner also inspected the Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Shaheed Dweep, and discussed institutional issues with school authorities. She subsequently visited the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Neil Kendra, where she interacted with medical and support staff and reviewed concerns and requirements related to the facility’s functioning.
The administration said it had taken note of the requirements raised during both inspections and would coordinate with the concerned departments for follow-up action.
The public hearing forms part of the District Administration’s outreach efforts to provide residents with direct access to officials for grievance submission and follow-up on essential public services.
