Commodore Nambiath Sudeep has assumed charge as Deputy Director General of the NCC Directorate Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar, and conducted a two-day official visit to NCC units in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on March 24 and 25.
The visit marked his first official engagement in the islands following his appointment. During the visit, he held discussions with senior military leadership at Headquarters Andaman and Nicobar Command, focusing on National Cadet Corps activities and coordination in the region.
On March 24, Commodore Sudeep met the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command and the Chief of Staff, along with other senior officials, to review ongoing NCC initiatives and explore ways to enhance coordination and engagement. The discussions centred on strengthening the functioning of NCC units in the strategically significant island territory.
Later, he visited key NCC units in the islands, including the 1 (Andaman and Nicobar) Naval Unit NCC and the 1 (Andaman and Nicobar) Independent Infantry Company NCC. During the visit, Naval NCC cadets accorded him a ceremonial Guard of Honour, marking the formal reception at the unit level.
The Deputy Director General was accompanied by Colonel T Hariteja, Group Commander Chennai ‘A’. At the units, he was received by Lieutenant Commander Reyaz Farooq and Colonel K Y Singh, who are the Commanding Officers of the respective NCC units.
The visit included direct interaction with NCC personnel and an on-ground review of unit-level activities, reflecting an administrative focus on strengthening training mechanisms and institutional coordination. The engagement also highlighted the operational linkages between NCC units and the tri-services command in the islands.
Officials indicated that such visits are aimed at assessing existing systems and identifying areas for improvement in training, outreach, and participation. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands hold strategic importance in the national security framework, and the role of NCC in youth engagement and preparedness remains a key component of defence-related outreach.
The visit concluded after engagements across NCC units and interactions with senior officials, underscoring an emphasis on expanding the presence and effectiveness of NCC programmes in the region.
