National Lok Adalat to Be Held at Calcutta High Court Circuit Bench

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 11: The High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC), Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court, Port Blair, will organize the second National Lok Adalat of 2026 on June 20 to facilitate amicable settlement of cases through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

The Lok Adalat will commence at 10 am at the Circuit Bench premises in Port Blair and will cover both pending cases before the High Court and eligible pre-litigation matters that may be filed in the future.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at reducing litigation and providing parties with an opportunity to resolve disputes through mutual agreement in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner.

Parties interested in having their disputes settled during the Lok Adalat have been asked to submit joint applications along with their advocates on or before June 16.

Applications can be submitted at the office of the High Court Legal Services Committee located within the Circuit Bench complex. The applications may also be sent through email to hcourt.and@nic.in before the prescribed deadline.

Officials clarified that applications received after June 16 will be considered for subsequent Lok Adalat sessions, keeping in view the time required for requisitioning records and preparation of cause lists.

The committee has also informed litigants that cases will be listed only if relevant records are available before the Lok Adalat Bench. No reconstruction of files will be entertained where records are unavailable at the time of hearing.

Lok Adalats have emerged as an important mechanism for dispute resolution by enabling parties to settle matters voluntarily, thereby reducing the burden on courts and ensuring quicker resolution of cases.

The High Court Legal Services Committee has urged eligible parties and legal practitioners to make use of the opportunity for settlement through the National Lok Adalat.
