Sri Vijaya Puram, May 30: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Circuit Bench will conduct its scheduled sittings in Sri Vijaya Puram through virtual mode from June 8 to June 19, 2026, with the Andaman and Nicobar Administration directing departments involved in pending cases to complete necessary preparations for the hearings.
According to notices issued on May 20 and May 22 by the Deputy Registrar and Head of Office, the Division Bench comprising Urmita Datta (Sen), Judicial Member, and Suchitto Kumar Das, Administrative Member, will hear matters through virtual proceedings during the designated period. The arrangement has been made in view of austerity measures.
The Administration has informed all concerned departments and stakeholders about the virtual sitting schedule and has advised them to ensure that all case-related documentation and procedural requirements are completed in advance of the hearings.
Officials stated that fresh applications will also be entertained during the Circuit Sitting period. The virtual hearings will provide litigants and departments an opportunity to present matters before the Tribunal without the physical presence of the Bench in the Islands.
Departments handling cases before the Central Administrative Tribunal have been requested to remain in close coordination with Government Pleaders and Panel Advocates representing the Administration. Authorities have directed departments to provide all relevant case records and detailed briefs to the Government Counsel to facilitate effective representation during the proceedings.
The Administration emphasized that timely submission of documents and proper briefing of legal representatives are necessary to ensure that cases are defended with adequate preparation. Departments have been asked to review pending matters and ensure that all required information is made available to the concerned counsel before the scheduled dates of hearing.
Heads of Departments have also been instructed to direct their designated Nodal Officers to remain present during the virtual proceedings. The officers are expected to attend hearings with relevant documents and records to assist Government Pleaders and Panel Advocates whenever required by the Tribunal.
The instructions have been issued to ensure smooth conduct of proceedings and effective coordination between departments and legal representatives during the virtual sittings. Officials noted that the presence of departmental representatives would facilitate prompt clarification of issues and availability of records during the hearing process.
The Circuit Sitting will continue from June 8 to June 19, 2026, covering all scheduled matters before the Bench during the period. The Administration has urged all departments concerned with CAT cases to complete preparatory work and maintain coordination with legal counsel to ensure efficient handling of cases during the virtual hearings.
