Sri Vijaya Puram, July 31: A joint enforcement drive against drunken driving was conducted at Panighat, Mayabunder, on July 29, as police and traffic authorities intensified efforts to improve road safety and ensure compliance with traffic regulations. The operation focused on preventing accidents by checking drivers, particularly those operating public transport vehicles.
The special drive was led by Inspector R.K. Mazumder, Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station Mayabunder, in coordination with the Special Traffic Checking Team and the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Mayabunder.
The enforcement operation specifically targeted drivers of public carriage vehicles, including government and private express buses, along with other passenger transport vehicles. Authorities conducted the checks with the objective of ensuring that drivers followed safety regulations and that commuters were not exposed to risks caused by traffic violations.
During the drive, motorists and public transport drivers were informed about the dangers associated with driving under the influence of alcohol and the legal consequences of violating traffic laws. The enforcement team advised drivers to adopt responsible driving practices and comply with prescribed traffic rules to ensure safer roads.
The checking operation also resulted in legal action against traffic violators. Authorities issued eight challans for various violations detected during the enforcement activity.
The North & Middle Andaman District Police stated that road safety remains a priority and that regular enforcement measures and awareness initiatives will continue to encourage responsible driving behaviour among motorists.
The police have also reiterated their commitment to taking action against individuals who violate traffic regulations while simultaneously creating awareness among road users about safe driving practices.
The enforcement drive at Panighat forms part of ongoing efforts by the district police and traffic authorities to strengthen road safety measures and reduce risks associated with traffic violations, particularly among vehicles involved in public transportation.
Through continued monitoring, enforcement and public awareness programmes, authorities aim to promote greater compliance with traffic laws and improve safety for commuters and other road users across the region.
