Sri Vijaya Puram, August 11: A massive Tiranga Yatra was held in Sri Vijaya Puram on 10 August as part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, bringing together hundreds of citizens, BJP workers, youth, women activists, sportspersons, ex-servicemen and people from different walks of life ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
The procession began at the Cellular Jail National Memorial and moved through the city before concluding at the Gandhi Statue in Aberdeen Bazaar. Participants carried the National Tricolour and raised patriotic slogans throughout the procession, creating a public display of national pride.
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is being observed from August 9 to August 15. During the programme, BJP Andaman and Nicobar Prabhari Raghunath Kulkarni said the campaign seeks to strengthen national unity and patriotism. BJP State President Anil Kumar Tiwari highlighted the Tricolour as a symbol of India’s freedom, sovereignty, unity, diversity and continuing progress.
Kulkarni also stressed India’s identity as a nation shaped by diverse cultures, traditions, languages and communities, saying the spirit of “Unity in Diversity” remains among the country’s strengths.
Organisers said the Tiranga Yatra sought to spread the message of national unity and encourage young people to contribute actively towards nation-building. The procession was described as a non-political patriotic event that brought citizens from different walks of life together to celebrate national pride.
The programme also featured patriotic musical performances by the Ostra BRW Entertainment Band, led by Wahid Shah and his team, at Veer Savarkar Park. Participants joined the entertainment team in singing patriotic songs, adding to the atmosphere during the event.
Children dressed as prominent national heroes and freedom fighters, including Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Rani Lakshmibai, Veer Savarkar and Swami Vivekananda, also participated in the procession. Their participation highlighted the contributions of freedom fighters and national icons.
The event saw participation from personalities associated with different fields, including Padma Shri awardee Naresh Chander Lal, international cyclist David Beckham, retired teachers and ex-servicemen.
Tiwari appealed to residents to hoist the National Flag at their homes from August 13 to August 15 as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. He urged citizens to participate in the campaign and mark Independence Day by displaying the Tricolour with pride and respect.
The rally concluded with slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” as participants reaffirmed their commitment to the nation.
