Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 26: Cleanliness, waste management and public amenities will be the central focus of Lt. Governor Dr Dinesh Sharma’s visit to Shaheed Dweep, where he will lead cleanliness drives at key public and tourist locations and review sanitation arrangements during a two-day programme beginning September 26.
Dr Dinesh Sharma will participate in the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign and attend the World Tourism Day 2026 programme during the visit. His schedule will include engagements covering tourist destinations, waste management infrastructure, healthcare, policing, education and local governance.
As part of the cleanliness campaign, Dr Dinesh Sharma will lead drives at Bharatpur Beach and Laxmanpur Sunset Beach, two prominent tourist destinations in Shaheed Dweep. He will subsequently inspect the Solid Waste Management Cluster and review the arrangements in place for waste segregation and disposal.
The Lt. Governor will also visit the Police Station at Shaheed Dweep and take part in a cleanliness drive there. The programme will then move to the Primary Health Centre, where he will participate in a cleanliness activity within the premises and review public amenities at the facility.
During the PHC visit, Dr Dinesh Sharma will interact with doctors and healthcare personnel to understand the challenges faced by the facility and assess its requirements.
His programme will also include an interaction with representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, local public representatives and members of the general public. Discussions will cover cleanliness, tourism, sanitation management and other developmental activities in Shaheed Dweep.
The visit will extend to PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Neil Kendra, where Dr Dinesh Sharma will lead a cleanliness drive on the school premises. He will also lead a similar drive at the Shaheed Dweep Jetty.
The programme brings together sanitation-related activities with reviews and interactions involving public facilities and local stakeholders during the Lt. Governor’s stay on the island.
Dr Dinesh Sharma will stay overnight in Shaheed Dweep on September 27 after completing the scheduled engagements. He will return to Lok Niwas the following day.
