Lt Governor Reviews Great Nicobar Mega Project Plan, Tourism Infrastructure Expansion

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 16: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has reviewed the progress and implementation strategy of the proposed Great Nicobar mega development project and a series of tourism infrastructure initiatives across the islands, with Lieutenant Governor Admiral D.K. Joshi chairing a high-level meeting at Lok Niwas to assess the roadmap for key projects.

The review focused on the business plan, implementation strategy and infrastructure augmentation for the upcoming Great Nicobar Island mega projects, along with hospitality and tourism developments being undertaken by the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation (ANIIDCO). Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and senior officials also attended the meeting.

According to the Administration, presentations were made by ANIIDCO and consultant Egis India on the business plan and implementation strategy for the proposed Great Nicobar Island development. The review covered major components of the project, including the International Container Transshipment Port (ICTP), Greenfield Airport and Township development, with particular emphasis on medicity, educity, hospitality and tourism.

The meeting also reviewed proposals relating to the augmentation of existing infrastructure in Great Nicobar Island to support the planned development and associated facilities.

Apart from the Great Nicobar project, ANIIDCO presented the status and implementation plans for several hospitality and tourism projects being developed across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The projects reviewed included the proposed mega hospitality and tourism developments at Radhanagar in Swaraj Dweep, Hornbill Estate, Raman Bagicha, Karmatang North Bay and the proposed world-class golf course and leisure destination at Rangachang.

The Administration said the review examined the implementation strategy for these projects as part of the broader plan to strengthen tourism infrastructure and support future development initiatives in the islands.

Chief Secretary and senior officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration participated in the review meeting alongside officials associated with the project presentations.

The meeting formed part of the Administration’s review process to assess the progress of infrastructure and tourism proposals under implementation and planned for different parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The projects reviewed include proposals intended to expand infrastructure in Great Nicobar while advancing hospitality and tourism developments at multiple locations across the archipelago. The presentations focused on implementation strategies and business planning for the projects placed before the Lieutenant Governor and senior officials.

No further decisions or timelines regarding the projects were announced during the review meeting.
