Sri Vijaya Puram, May 20: Concerns over an ongoing LPG cylinder shortage in Little Andaman have prompted intervention by local representatives, with authorities now assuring that fresh supplies will be dispatched within the next few days to ease public inconvenience.
The issue was taken up by Rajesh Majumdar, State Vice President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, along with party members, who engaged with officials and distributors to address supply disruptions affecting residents.
During discussions with Ramesh, Secretary of CCS, it was confirmed that LPG distribution for R.K. Pur had already been completed in the most recent supply cycle. However, shortages continued to impact other areas, prompting further logistical arrangements.

Officials stated that additional supply planning is currently underway for Rabindra Nagar and Vivekananda Pur, where the requirement has been estimated at around 1,400 cylinders. These areas had reported significant demand due to delays in replenishment.
According to the assurance provided during the meeting, loading of LPG cylinders meant for Little Andaman is expected to be completed within the next two to three days. Once dispatched, the cylinders are likely to reach the island shortly thereafter, helping restore normal supply conditions.
The shortage had raised concerns among residents, particularly in remote island locations where access to essential commodities depends heavily on timely maritime transport and coordinated distribution.
Authorities indicated that necessary steps are being taken to streamline supply chains and prevent recurrence of such disruptions. The focus remains on ensuring that residents do not face prolonged inconvenience due to delays in essential services.
Rajesh Majumdar acknowledged the response from the department and expressed appreciation for the cooperation extended by the CCS Secretary in addressing the matter. He also emphasised the need for continued coordination between officials and local representatives to maintain consistent supply.
The development comes as part of ongoing efforts to stabilise essential commodity distribution in remote island regions, where logistical challenges often impact availability and accessibility.
