Sri Vijaya Puram, April 25: Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police in Little Andaman seized illicit cannabis plants from a residential property in Hut Bay and arrested one individual in connection with illegal cultivation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The operation was carried out on April 22, 2026, after information was received regarding suspected cannabis cultivation at a house located in Katai Ward No. 11, R.K. Pur area of Little Andaman. Following the input, a raiding team was formed and proceeded to the identified location for verification and search.

The team included personnel from Police Station Hut Bay and was accompanied by independent witnesses from the locality to ensure procedural compliance during the search operation. Upon inspection of the premises, officers recovered eight cannabis plants cultivated in the backyard of the residence.
Police stated that each plant was examined, and the total weight recorded was approximately 43 grams. All recovered plants were seized on the spot following standard legal procedures.
The occupant of the premises, identified as Diganta Halder, aged 23 years, son of Late Gobinda Halder, was taken into custody after completion of formalities under the NDPS Act. Authorities confirmed that the arrest was made following due process and documentation at the site.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior police officials of the South Andaman district. Law enforcement authorities noted that the action forms part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug cultivation and distribution activities in the island region.
Police have urged members of the public to report any information related to drug cultivation or other unlawful activities. Citizens can contact emergency helplines or designated police numbers, with assurances that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
Officials reiterated that strict enforcement measures under the NDPS Act will continue as part of sustained efforts to address narcotics-related offences in the region.
