Sri Vijaya Puram, July 27: The sacrifices of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War were commemorated through music and poetry at Flag Point, where a patriotic cultural programme brought together artists, students and citizens to pay tribute to the nation’s armed forces on Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The programme, organised by the Department of Art & Culture on 26 July evening, featured a series of patriotic performances dedicated to the courage and supreme sacrifice of the soldiers who defended the country during the Kargil War. The event sought to honour the memory of the fallen while reinforcing the values of national unity and service.
The evening opened with patriotic and nationalist songs performed by artists from the Unity Orchestra and the Geet Sangeet Musical Group. Their performances formed the central musical segment of the programme, reflecting the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas and its place in the nation’s collective remembrance.
The event also provided a platform for poets from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to present original compositions inspired by patriotism and national service. Ayush Kumar Dubey and Neeta Chandra recited self-composed poems dedicated to the country’s soldiers and their sacrifices.
Students from higher educational institutions also participated by presenting their own original poetry. Representing Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE), Anjali Munda and Hashira Hanif recited poems during the programme. Amrita Biswas and J. Natasha from Andaman Law College also presented self-written compositions.
Students from Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM), including Kunal Bain, S. Divya and Simran Munda, joined the programme by reciting poems dedicated to the nation and its armed forces.
Adding to the evening’s performances, Ganesh Mishra, a student of Model School, presented a patriotic song that formed part of the cultural tribute to the soldiers commemorated on Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The programme concluded with citizens gathering at Flag Point to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the armed forces. According to the organisers, the event sought to rekindle the spirit of unity, courage and devotion to the nation through cultural expression while remembering those who laid down their lives in the service of the country.
A large number of residents attended the programme, joining artists, students and performers in observing Kargil Vijay Diwas and paying tribute to the nation’s heroes through music, poetry and collective remembrance.
