Sri Vijaya Puram, July 26: Healthcare services in North and Middle Andaman have taken another step towards digitalisation with the implementation of the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) at Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder and Primary Health Centre (PHC), Tugapur under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The rollout is expected to streamline patient services through digital registration, electronic medical records and e-prescription facilities.
With the implementation, both healthcare institutions have become digitally enabled, supporting more efficient patient care and hospital administration. Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder was onboarded onto the NextGen eHospital platform last year, while PHC Tugapur was integrated with the eSushrut Lite HMIS on July 24, 2026, marking another milestone in the digital transformation of healthcare services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The formal launch of the eSushrut Lite HMIS at PHC Tugapur was attended by Chief Medical Officer In-charge of Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder, Dr. Shailaja P., along with medical officers from Dr. R. P. Hospital and PHC Tugapur.
The eSushrut Lite HMIS provides digital outpatient department (OPD) registration and e-prescription services, enabling healthcare facilities to maintain Electronic Medical Records (EMRs). The system is designed to reduce paperwork, improve transparency and enhance the overall efficiency and quality of healthcare delivery.
Addressing the launch programme, Dr. Shailaja P. encouraged healthcare personnel to actively adopt the new digital platform. She highlighted its role in improving patient care, strengthening hospital administration and supporting the delivery of quality healthcare services.
Specialist (Anaesthetist) Dr. Arnold Ashu, Medical Officer Dr. Alice Bwa and Medical Officer Dr. N. Haney Nickyson of PHC Tugapur also addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of adopting digital healthcare systems. Assistant Project Coordinator, ABDM, Protap Dhali also spoke during the programme.
The Health Department has advised members of the public visiting Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder and PHC Tugapur to carry their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) Card or the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar to facilitate faster OPD registration and easier access to their digital health records through the ABHA App.
The ABHA App is available for download through the Google Play Store and enables users to securely access and manage their digital health records from anywhere in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as well as across the country.
