An elderly woman fell into the sea near Uttara Jetty in Kadamtala after losing balance while sitting at the edge. She was found unconscious and pulled out from the water before being given emergency first aid. The woman was then shifted to a local health centre, where she regained normal breathing and is undergoing treatment. The incident has raised concerns over safety at busy jetties used by the public.

Kadamtala, May 21, 2026: A 70-year-old woman was rescued after she fell into the sea near Uttara Jetty in Kadamtala on the evening of May 21, 2026, and was found unconscious before being revived through emergency intervention.

The incident occurred when the woman had gone to the jetty to purchase fish. According to available information, she was sitting near the edge when she lost her balance and slipped into the water. Her advanced age is believed to have contributed to the sudden imbalance that led to the fall.

Following the incident, personnel from PMF Kadamtala reached the location after receiving information and initiated a rescue operation. The woman was located in the water in an unconscious state and was immediately brought ashore.

Emergency first aid was administered at the site in an effort to stabilise her condition. She was then transported to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Kadamtala for further medical attention.

Officials confirmed that the woman responded to treatment and regained normal breathing. She remains under medical care at PHC Kadamtala, where her condition is being monitored.

The episode has raised concerns about safety at public jetties, particularly those frequently used for daily activities such as fish trading and local movement. Uttara Jetty sees regular footfall, including elderly residents, making it vulnerable to accidental slips and falls.

The incident underscores the risks associated with unguarded or crowded waterfront areas, especially during routine activities. Sudden imbalance, combined with proximity to open water, can quickly escalate into life-threatening situations if immediate assistance is not available.

No foul play has been indicated in the matter, and the fall is being treated as accidental. Authorities have not reported any additional complications related to the incident.

The woman’s condition improved following timely medical attention, and she continues to receive treatment at the local health facility.
