Sri Vijaya Puram, June 3: Efforts to improve access to preventive healthcare services in rural areas received a boost with the organisation of a Dental and Eye Health Camp at Chouldari Community Hall, enabling residents to access specialised consultations and health guidance closer to their communities.
The health camp was organised under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) through the Farm, Nutrition and Health and WASH (FNHW) initiative by Sansar Village Organization and Leela Krishna Cluster Coordinator. The programme focused on promoting preventive healthcare awareness and facilitating access to essential dental and eye care services for rural beneficiaries.
Healthcare professionals attending the camp provided consultations and health-related guidance to participants while emphasising the importance of regular health screenings. The specialists highlighted that timely dental and eye examinations play a crucial role in maintaining overall health and preventing complications that may arise from undetected conditions.
The camp featured the participation of Dental Hygienist Alka Sharma, Optometrist T. Selvam, Dr. V. Yashwant Shiva and Dr. Vishnavi Lall, who interacted with beneficiaries and offered professional advice on oral and visual health. Residents were informed about preventive practices, the significance of early diagnosis and the need for routine check-ups to maintain long-term well-being.
Officials associated with the programme noted that access to specialised healthcare services can often be limited in rural areas, making outreach initiatives an important component of community health promotion. By bringing healthcare professionals directly to local communities, such programmes help bridge gaps in awareness and service accessibility.
The initiative also received active support from Primary Health Centre Chouldari. Healthcare personnel, including the Junior Doctor, Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and Public Health Nurse (PHN), participated in the camp and extended medical assistance to beneficiaries throughout the programme.
Community members turned out in significant numbers and actively participated in the consultations and awareness activities conducted during the camp. The programme provided an opportunity for residents to seek professional advice on dental and eye health concerns while gaining a better understanding of preventive healthcare practices.
Officials said the camp reflected ongoing efforts under DAY-NRLM to integrate health and wellness initiatives with community development programmes. Such interventions are increasingly being viewed as effective tools for improving public health awareness while strengthening access to essential services in rural areas.
The successful conduct of the programme underscored the role of community-based organisations and healthcare institutions in promoting preventive healthcare and supporting healthier rural communities. Organisers said the initiative reaffirmed the commitment of DAY-NRLM and Sansar Village Organization towards enhancing community health outcomes and improving access to healthcare services at the grassroots level.
