CANSRU Organises Corbyn’s Cove Clean-Up Under Swachhata Hi Seva, Focuses on Waste Segregation

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 5:  A cleanliness drive at Corbyn’s Cove Beach brought together employees, trainees, vendors and police personnel as Cochin Shipyard Limited’s Andaman and Nicobar unit, CSL–AN Ship Repair Unit (CANSRU), undertook a public-space sanitation campaign under Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026.

The initiative was organised in line with directives of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, in collaboration with the Andaman and Nicobar Police, Sri Vijaya Puram. CANSRU employees, trainees, Quality Control and Fire personnel, vendors and personnel from PS Aberdeen participated in the drive.

Inspector Vijay Kumar of PS Aberdeen, who inaugurated the programme, stressed that maintaining clean public spaces requires collective responsibility and sustained community participation. He urged participants to contribute actively to keeping shared surroundings hygienic.

CANSRU Unit Head Sreekanth V highlighted the need to segregate plastic and other waste into designated bins. He said proper segregation and disposal practices are essential for maintaining cleanliness and supporting sustainable environmental management.

Other officials present included Binu K. Kuriakose, AGM, CANSRU; Mathew Varghese, Senior Manager (HR & IR); Joseph M. Esthapannu, Senior Manager (Mechanical); Vishal Tiwari, Sub-Inspector, PS Aberdeen; and Deepti Minj, Sub-Inspector, PS Aberdeen.

The concluding session expanded beyond the cleanliness campaign, with participants receiving information on legal and public-safety concerns. Vijay Kumar briefed them on key provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023.

Vishal Tiwari conducted an awareness session on cybercrime prevention and digital safety, while Deepti Minj addressed the POSH Act, 2013 and the POCSO Act, underscoring workplace safety and child protection.

Mathew Varghese, Senior Manager (HR & IR), delivered the Vote of Thanks, marking the conclusion of the programme. The initiative was conducted under the SHS 2026 theme, “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.”
