Beach Yoga Session at Chidiyatapu Marks Countdown to International Yoga Day 2026

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 9: The tranquil shores of Munda Pahad Beach at Chidiyatapu transformed into an open-air wellness arena as doctors, yoga instructors and students came together for a special beach yoga session organized as part of the countdown activities leading to the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026.

The event, held against the backdrop of the sea and lush greenery, aimed to spread awareness about the benefits of yoga while encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles through regular physical activity and mindfulness practices.

Participants included healthcare professionals, trained yoga instructors and students from the ANM School, who gathered in the early hours to take part in the session. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation and created an atmosphere focused on health, wellness and community engagement.

The yoga session began with the practice of the Common Yoga Protocol, a standardized sequence of yogic exercises promoted nationwide during International Day of Yoga observances. Participants performed a series of asanas, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques under the guidance of instructors.

Organizers said the programme was designed to help participants understand the role of yoga in improving flexibility, strengthening the body, enhancing concentration and reducing stress. The exercises were suitable for participants of different age groups and fitness levels, reinforcing the message that yoga can be practiced by people from all walks of life.

The scenic setting of Munda Pahad Beach added a unique dimension to the event. With the sound of waves in the background and fresh sea breeze flowing through the venue, participants experienced yoga in a natural environment that complemented the principles of balance, mindfulness and harmony often associated with the ancient practice.

Many attendees described the experience as refreshing and inspiring, noting that practicing yoga in an outdoor setting helped them feel more connected with nature. Participants also highlighted the calming effect of the surroundings, which enhanced the overall experience of meditation and relaxation exercises.

Health experts present during the event reiterated the importance of incorporating yoga into daily routines, particularly in an era where sedentary lifestyles and stress-related health issues are becoming increasingly common.

They noted that regular yoga practice can contribute to better physical fitness, improved posture, enhanced respiratory health and mental well-being. In addition, yoga is widely recognized for its role in managing lifestyle-related disorders such as hypertension, obesity and anxiety.

The event also served as an opportunity to raise awareness among young people about preventive healthcare practices. Students participating in the programme were encouraged to view yoga not only as a physical exercise but also as a holistic approach to maintaining overall health and emotional balance.

Officials associated with the programme said such activities are being organized across the islands as part of a broader campaign to popularize yoga ahead of International Day of Yoga, observed annually on June 21.

Since its adoption by the United Nations in 2014, International Day of Yoga has evolved into a global movement promoting the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga. In India, the observance has become a major public health initiative involving schools, colleges, government departments, healthcare institutions and community organizations.

The Department of AYUSH has been conducting a series of awareness and outreach activities in the lead-up to this year’s celebrations, focusing on expanding participation and encouraging individuals to integrate yoga into their everyday lives.

Organizers said the beach yoga session reflected the department’s continuing commitment to promoting wellness and preventive healthcare among all sections of society.

As preparations for International Day of Yoga 2026 gather momentum, similar programmes are expected to be conducted across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, bringing communities together through a shared focus on health, fitness and holistic well-being.
