Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 23: Nearly 500 residents of Baratang received specialist medical consultations at a multi-speciality health camp organised as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations under the aegis of Headquarters Andaman & Nicobar Command (HQ ANC), bringing specialist healthcare services to the island community through an outreach programme.
INHS Dhanvantari and Station Health Organisation, Sri Vijaya Puram, conducted the camp at Baratang. Surg Cdr Prasant Panda, CSO (Med), led the medical programme, which was inaugurated by the Chief of Staff, HQ ANC.
Specialists provided consultations across Medicine, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Radiology and Dentistry. Medical conditions identified during consultations were addressed through treatment advice and counselling, while patients requiring further care received referrals for subsequent management. Surgical and antenatal cases were also assessed and counselled by the respective specialists.
The camp received support from PHC Baratang and the local Administration, facilitating the outreach programme for residents. The initiative also included a preventive-health component aimed at improving awareness within the local community.
At the Health & Wellness Centre in Flat Bay, the Community Medicine Specialist and Officer-in-Charge of the Station Health Organisation conducted a health awareness session for residents. The session formed part of the preventive health activities associated with the programme.
A separate interaction was held for students of SS School, Baratang, focusing on adolescent health, personal hygiene and healthy lifestyle practices. The session also encouraged students to consider careers in the Armed Forces.
The outreach programme combined specialist consultations with preventive-health awareness and adolescent health education, extending the activities beyond clinical evaluation to community-focused health engagement in Baratang.
