Sri Vijaya Puram, November 7: South Andaman District Police has stepped up security across the district ahead of Diwali, deploying round-the-clock patrol vehicles, intensifying foot and mobile patrolling, and holding peace committee meetings to prevent disturbances during the festival. The arrangements cover markets, residential areas, crowded locations and identified sensitive pockets, with police personnel placed at strategic points to respond to emergencies.
The security measures include intensive mobile patrolling across the district, particularly in markets, residential localities and other areas considered sensitive. Dedicated police teams are also conducting foot patrols in high-footfall zones and vulnerable pockets to increase police presence, deter anti-social elements and prevent untoward incidents.

Newly allotted Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles have been deployed across their respective jurisdictions for continuous patrolling on a 24-hour basis. The vehicles will remain on the move to maintain police presence in different areas and facilitate quicker responses to emergency calls and requests for assistance.
Alongside the deployment of personnel and vehicles, the district police has held Peace Committee Meetings at all police stations to address concerns relating to communal harmony during the festive period. Representatives of different communities, market associations, religious leaders and prominent citizens attended the meetings and extended their cooperation towards maintaining peace.
The district police has also maintained close coordination with the Police Control Room, with personnel deployed at strategic locations to handle emergency situations. It said the security arrangements would remain in place throughout the festive period.

The police has appealed to residents to cooperate with the security measures and celebrate Diwali responsibly while maintaining peace, harmony and brotherhood. The appeal comes alongside the deployment of additional patrol arrangements and community-level consultations intended to prevent disruptions during the celebrations.
For emergency assistance or immediate police intervention, residents can dial 112, the toll-free emergency helpline, which operates round the clock.
The district police has also extended Diwali greetings to residents, wishing them a safe and prosperous festival.
