Sri Vijaya Puram, November 7: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 20 postgraduate medical seats at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) for the 2026–27 academic session, including 10 seats under the State Quota exclusively for eligible candidates from the Islands. The remaining 10 seats will be filled through the All India Quota, with admissions based on NEET-PG 2026 merit.
ANIIMS has invited applications from candidates who qualified NEET-PG 2026 for admission to its postgraduate MD/MS courses. The approval provides for admissions through two separate counselling processes, with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducting online counselling for All India Quota seats and ANIIMS handling the State Quota admissions.
Eligibility for the 10 State Quota seats is restricted to NEET-PG-qualified candidates who are residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. ANIIMS will determine admissions through a combined merit list of eligible local candidates across four specified categories.

These include Category I Tribals; Category IIIA settlers who arrived in the Islands before 1942; Category IIIB residents settled under rehabilitation schemes introduced after the reoccupation of the Islands; and Category IV, covering other local residents who have completed 10 years of education in the Islands.
The institute will publish provisional and final merit lists on its official website and display them on its notice board. Candidates can access the prospectus-cum-application form from November 7 and submit completed applications online through https://aniims.andamannicobar.
According to the admission schedule, ANIIMS will publish the provisional merit list on November 18. Candidates can submit appeals or grievances on November 19, while the final merit list will be released on November 20.
The second round of counselling and document verification is scheduled for November 23, with November 30 as the last date for joining. The third round will take place on December 12, followed by a joining deadline of December 18. ANIIMS has also scheduled a stray vacancy round, if required, for December 24, with December 31 as the final joining date.
The institute has scheduled the commencement of the postgraduate academic session for November 20, 2026.
Candidates seeking clarification about the admission process can contact the ANIIMS Admission Cell at 03192-230258 during office hours.
