Sri Vijaya Puram, June 27: The Andaman and Nicobar State Legal Services Authority (ANSLSA), in association with PRAYAS Juvenile Aid Centre (JAC), organised an awareness rally in Sri Vijaya Puram to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, reinforcing the campaign against substance abuse and promoting a healthy and responsible society.
The rally commenced from the premises of the High Court Circuit Bench, Port Blair, and brought together members of the judiciary, civic representatives, students, social workers and volunteers to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of preventive action.
Rashid Alam, Registrar, Calcutta High Court-cum-Member Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar State Legal Services Authority, flagged off the rally in the presence of Umesh Singh, Additional District Judge, Port Blair, and Lilamoy Mondal, Judge, Family Court, Port Blair.
The programme witnessed participation from V. Vetrivelu, Senior Vice-Chairperson of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, councillors of the Municipal Council, social workers from Sri Vijaya Puram, students of Andaman College (ANCOL) and staff members of PRAYAS Juvenile Aid Centre led by its Regional Head.
Participants joined the rally to raise public awareness about the dangers associated with drug abuse and illicit trafficking while encouraging individuals, particularly young people, to adopt healthy, positive and responsible lifestyles.
The organisers said the rally reflected a collective commitment from different sections of society to strengthen community awareness and promote preventive measures against substance abuse. Students, civic representatives and social organisations participated together in support of the campaign for a drug-free society.
The awareness programme also highlighted the importance of community participation in addressing the growing challenge of drug abuse through public engagement and educational initiatives.
According to the organisers, the observance aimed to reinforce the message that coordinated efforts by institutions, educational establishments and civil society are essential to prevent substance abuse and encourage informed choices among the younger generation.
The Andaman and Nicobar State Legal Services Authority reiterated its commitment to continuing legal awareness and public outreach programmes that encourage community participation in the fight against drug abuse.
The rally concluded with participants reaffirming the need to work collectively towards building a healthier, safer and drug-free society through sustained public awareness and community involvement.
