Andaman & Nicobar Team Selected for Indian Softball Cricket League 2025

Date:

A 16-member cricket team from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been selected to represent the region in the Indian Softball Cricket League (ISCL), scheduled to begin on December 1 in Bangalore. The league features 32 teams from across India, with the Andaman and Nicobar team being the sole representative from the islands.

Out of 70 to 80 players who registered for the selection trials, 16 players were shortlisted based on their performance. Each participant faced 12 balls during the trials, and the team was chosen for their skill and performance. The team will be led by captain G. Jayram, with Sundar Panday serving as vice-captain.

A press conference was held by Aziz Ur Rahman, Councillor of Ward No. 6, with the captain and vice-captain present. Addressing the media, Aziz Ur Rahman congratulated the team and expressed his gratitude. He also highlighted the importance of gully cricket in the islands, noting its contribution to developing cricket talent from street and grassroots levels to a national platform.

Speaking to the media, Captain G. Jayram and Vice-Captain Sundar Panday thanked Aziz Ur Rahman for his support in arranging a ground for their practice, as the team had been struggling to find a suitable place to train. They also acknowledged his help in supporting the team in every possible way. The duo requested islanders to watch their match on December 5 and extend their support to the team.

The team’s first match is scheduled for December 5 and will be broadcast live on DD Sports and YouTube, allowing viewers across India to follow the players’ performance in the league.

The selection trials were conducted to identify the most skilled players from the islands, ensuring that the team represents the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at the national level. The team members will now focus on preparation for the competition, which brings together 32 teams from across India in the ISCL.

The Andaman and Nicobar team’s participation marks an opportunity for the players to compete at a national level and showcase their abilities. The combination of captain G. Jayram and vice-captain Sundar Panday will lead the team in matches throughout the league.

With the league’s matches beginning on December 1 and the islanders’ game scheduled for December 5, local cricket enthusiasts will have the chance to watch the team live through national telecast channels. The team’s presence in the ISCL provides exposure to competitive cricket and highlights the talent emerging from the islands.

The 16 selected players now form the official team representing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Indian Softball Cricket League, with preparations underway for their upcoming matches in Bangalore.
