N&M Andaman Police Destroy 425 Litres of Illicit Liquor Wash in Talbagan Forest Area

Date:

North and Middle Andaman, April 30: A police operation in North and Middle Andaman has led to the seizure and destruction of around 425 litres of fermented wash used for brewing illicit liquor, preventing its potential production and circulation in the region.

Acting on specific inputs, a team from Police Station Kalighat carried out a search operation in the Talbagan forest area near a creek on April 28. During the search, officers located multiple containers holding fermented wash, a key raw material used in the preparation of illegal liquor.

Officials said no individual was found at the site to claim ownership of the materials. The recovered wash and related items were subsequently destroyed on the spot after following due legal procedures.

The seizure highlights ongoing concerns around illicit liquor production in remote and forested areas, where such activities are often carried out away from direct surveillance. Authorities indicated that the operation helped prevent further processing of the substance and possible distribution in nearby localities.

Police said action against illegal liquor activities remains a priority, with enforcement measures aimed at disrupting supply chains and addressing associated risks, including public health concerns and unlawful trade networks.

Illicit liquor production poses multiple challenges, including the use of unsafe ingredients and unregulated methods, which can lead to serious health hazards. Authorities have repeatedly flagged the need for vigilance in areas prone to such activities.

Residents have been urged to report information related to illegal brewing, storage or transportation of liquor. Police have provided helpline numbers 100, 112 and 03192-273344 for sharing inputs, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential. Officials also stated that suitable rewards may be provided for credible information.

The latest operation forms part of continued enforcement efforts across the district to monitor and curb unlawful activities linked to illicit liquor production. Authorities indicated that surveillance and field operations will continue in identified areas.

The incident underscores the role of timely intervention in preventing illegal activities that can have wider social and health implications. Officials maintained that community cooperation remains essential in identifying such operations and ensuring sustained enforcement.
