Sri Vijaya Puram, May 4: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands added another feather to its cap by setting a second Guinness World Record for the Tallest Human Stack Underwater, measuring an impressive 22.3 meters at the Lighthouse dive site in Swaraj Dweep. The underwater formation, maintained for three minutes, marks a significant milestone in showcasing the islands’ underwater capabilities.
The record setting feat involved a team of 14 scuba divers, including Admiral Devendra Kumar Joshi (Retd.), the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency. The successful formation of the human stack demonstrated exceptional coordination, precision, and endurance under challenging underwater conditions.
The achievement was officially recognized later in the evening during the celebration banquet held at the conference hall of Dolphin Resort in Swaraj Dweep. Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath formally announced the new record and presented the certificate to the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.

This accomplishment comes alongside another recent record set by the islands – the “Largest National Flag Unfurled Underwater,” measuring 60 by 40 metres (2,400 square meters). Together, these twin Guinness World Records highlight the administration’s strategic efforts to position the islands as a leading global destination for underwater tourism and adventure sports.
Praising the participants, Lt. Governor Admiral D.K. Joshi commended the divers, officials, and all stakeholders for their dedication, teamwork, and meticulous planning. He emphasized that such achievements not only bring global recognition but also reinforce the islands’ reputation for excellence in marine and adventure activities.
Senior officials, including Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, Chief Secretary Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, and Director General of Police Shri H S Dhaliwal, were present during the occasion, underscoring the importance of the event at both administrative and strategic levels.
The record attempt was a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies, including the Tourism Department, Andaman & Nicobar Police, Forest Department, Indian Navy, and Indian Coast Guard. Scuba divers from various professional diving center’s across the islands also played a crucial role in executing the event successfully.
Officials stated that these initiatives are part of a broader vision to highlight the unique marine biodiversity and underwater landscapes of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. By achieving such global milestones, the administration aims to attract international divers, researchers, and tourists, boosting the region’s economy and visibility on the world map.
The successful completion of the twin records has further cemented the islands’ status as a world-class destination for diving and underwater exploration. Authorities expressed confidence that such initiatives will continue to inspire future events and strengthen sustainable tourism development in the region.
