Free Certified Training Rolled Out for Construction Workers in Andaman Islands

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 23: In a move aimed at addressing skill gaps and improving income security among construction workers, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (ANIBOCWWB) has announced free skill development training programmes for its registered beneficiaries and their family members.

The initiative, introduced in compliance with directions from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, seeks to strengthen employability through structured and certified training across key construction trades. The programme targets both registered workers and their families, expanding access to formal skill development opportunities within the sector.

According to the Board, the training will be offered free of cost and will cover multiple job roles aligned with National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) levels. The courses are designed to equip participants with practical and industry-relevant skills, enabling them to secure better employment opportunities and improve income stability.

The list of courses includes Brick Mason (Level 4, 330 hours), Mason Concrete (Level 3.5, 390 hours), Assistant Shuttering Carpenter (Level 3, 360 hours), and Shuttering Carpenter (Level 4, 570 hours). Other programmes include Assistant Scaffolder – System (Level 3, 330 hours), Assistant Electrician (Level 3, 390 hours), Construction Painter and Decorator (Level 3.5, 420 hours), and Assistant False Ceiling and Drywall Installer (Level 3, 360 hours).

Officials stated that the initiative aims to address the need for skilled labour within the construction sector while ensuring that workers and their families benefit from certified training pathways. By linking training with recognised NSQF levels, the Board intends to standardise skill acquisition and improve job prospects for participants.

The Board has appealed to all registered beneficiaries and their family members to take advantage of the programme. Interested workers are required to submit their nominations through email or WhatsApp, providing details such as the name and registration number of the beneficiary worker, the name of the family member if applicable, and the preferred course for both.

The application process has been kept accessible, allowing beneficiaries to register through email at bocwwb-pb@and.nic.in or via WhatsApp at 8900901130. For additional information or clarification, beneficiaries may contact the Administrative Officer of ANIBOCWWB through the provided phone and mobile numbers.

The initiative reflects an effort to expand the reach of formal skill development programmes within the islands, particularly among construction workers who often face limited access to structured training and certification. By including family members, the programme also seeks to extend livelihood opportunities beyond individual workers and promote broader economic stability.

With training being offered across multiple trades and levels, the programme is expected to contribute to workforce development in the construction sector while supporting the welfare objectives outlined by the Board.
