South Andaman to Hold Beneficiary Drive for 30 MW Solar Rooftop Clean Energy Project

Date:

The District Administration, South Andaman, has announced a Special Beneficiary Identification Drive as part of its ongoing efforts to promote clean energy and support socio-economically weaker sections under the 30 MW Solar Rooftop Project. The initiative is being implemented in RESCO mode under the ULA model of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY).

The Government of India’s scheme aims to ensure energy security and self-sufficiency for households from the weaker strata by providing solar rooftop facilities. The project is expected to significantly reduce dependence on conventional electricity sources while contributing to environmental sustainability across the islands.

According to the District Administration, the Special Beneficiary Identification Drive will be conducted for two consecutive days, on October 8 and 9, at the Community Halls of Ograbraj and Mithakhari Gram Panchayats. The initiative is designed to ensure maximum participation and convenience for the public.

Beneficiaries for this project will be identified from among those already enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) of the Department of Rural Development, the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) under the Department of Civil Supplies, and the Ayushman Bharat Yojana under the Directorate of Health Services.

All eligible residents of Ograbraj and Mithakhari Gram Panchayats have been urged to actively participate in the special drive and register themselves to avail the benefits of the 30 MW Solar Rooftop Project. The initiative aims to bring down household electricity expenses and contribute towards the larger vision of achieving a sustainable and energy-efficient Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The District Administration has requested all concerned beneficiaries to attend the camp on the scheduled dates with relevant documents proving their eligibility under any of the listed government schemes. For any assistance or clarification, individuals have been advised to contact their respective Gram Panchayat Offices.

This identification drive reflects the administration’s continued commitment to clean energy adoption and inclusive development. By aligning renewable energy goals with social welfare schemes, the project seeks to empower vulnerable sections of society and promote the long-term sustainability of the islands’ energy landscape.
