ICAR-CIARI Extends Anti-Corruption Awareness Drive to Villages and Schools Across Islands

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 31: ICAR-CIARI Extends Anti-Corruption Drive Across Island Villages. Promoting awareness of corruption prevention beyond government offices, the ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI) organised activities across villages and schools in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, bringing together 311 staff members, farmers and schoolchildren during Vigilance Awareness Week 2026.

The five-day observance, held from October 26 to 30, focused on integrity, transparency, accountability and ethical conduct in public life. Activities extended to communities in North and Middle Andaman, South Andaman and Nicobar district through the institute’s Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).

As part of the outreach, ICAR-CIARI organised awareness discussions in Gram Sabhas, drawing competitions in schools, a quiz competition for staff and walkathons. The programmes covered Tugapur Gram Panchayat, Pahargaon, Kamalapur Gram Panchayat and Harinagar in North and Middle Andaman, Tamaloo village in Car Nicobar, and Ananda Marga School at Chaudhary.

Community interactions included women farmers and focused on the role of individuals and local communities in preventing corruption. The drawing competitions gave students an opportunity to communicate their understanding of honesty, integrity and corruption-free practices through creative expression. The walkathons sought to reinforce public participation in promoting transparency and accountability.

The institute began the observance on October 26 with an integrity pledge, followed by a lecture on preventive vigilance and ethical conduct in public service by Administrative Officer Kanishk Bhukar. Staff members’ family members also participated in an online pledge. An iGOT training session formed another part of the programme to familiarise employees with vigilance-related practices.

The institute held the activities under the coordination of Vigilance Officer T. Sujatha and Administrative Officer Kanishk Bhukar, under the guidance of Acting Director Jai Sunder.

The observance concluded with a valedictory function on October 30. Its activities brought employees, farmers, students and local communities into discussions on vigilance as a shared responsibility, extending the focus on ethical conduct and corruption prevention beyond institutional settings.
