Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 30: Maritime security, strategic preparedness, sports development and the preservation of cultural heritage featured in separate meetings between Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dinesh Sharma and visiting delegations at Lok Niwas in Sri Vijaya Puram on October 29.

Vice Admiral (Retd.) Biswajit Dasgupta, National Maritime Security Coordinator, met the Lieutenant Governor and discussed matters concerning maritime security, strategic preparedness and coordination in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The meeting brought maritime security issues into focus, with the islands forming the geographical setting for discussions on strategic and inter-agency coordination.

Rear Admiral Amit Gurbuxani, Chief Instructor (Navy), also called on the Lieutenant Governor during the series of meetings. The administration’s communication did not provide further details about the subjects discussed during their interaction.

A delegation representing various sports associations subsequently met Sharma to discuss ways to encourage sporting talent and expand sports activities across the islands. The interaction covered issues concerning the promotion of sports and opportunities to support local talent.

The discussions with sports representatives focused on strengthening participation and encouraging the development of sporting abilities in the islands. However, the administration did not disclose any specific proposals, decisions or initiatives arising from the meeting.

A separate delegation from the Purohit Samiti, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, led by Pt. Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi, also met the Lieutenant Governor. The representatives raised matters relating to the history of Sanatan culture, religious traditions and the preservation of the islands’ cultural heritage.

The delegation apprised Sharma of its concerns and discussions surrounding the protection and continuation of cultural traditions in the islands.

The meetings brought together representatives from maritime security, the Navy, sports associations and a cultural organisation for separate interactions with the Lieutenant Governor. The administration’s statement outlined the subjects discussed but did not specify any formal decisions or follow-up measures arising from the engagements.
