Sri Vijaya Puram, October 26: Students, police trainees and NCC cadets in Maharashtra and Gujarat have been engaged in anti-drug awareness programmes by an Andaman and Nicobar Police contingent travelling across states as part of the National Motorcycle Rally–2026, which will conclude with a parade at Ekta Nagar on October 31.
The 12-member contingent is participating in the nationwide campaign under the theme “Fight Against Drugs”, linking public outreach on substance abuse with National Unity Day celebrations. The team comprises 10 riders on five motorcycles, a team leader and a technical staff member.
The rally began at the historic Cellular Jail in Sri Vijaya Puram on October 10, when Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma flagged it off. The island police contingent joined the larger rally in Chennai on October 14 and travelled through Nellore, Ongole, Hyderabad, Humnabad, Solapur and Daund before reaching Pune.
In Maharashtra, the team paid tribute to police personnel who died in the line of duty at the Police Smarak in Daund and held city parade campaigns to promote awareness against drug abuse.
The contingent also conducted outreach at Dr. D. Y. Patil Educational Complex in Akurdi, Pune, where it interacted with students, as well as with police trainees at the Central Reserve Police Force facility in Talegaon and the Police Training Centre in Khandala. The team later travelled to Mumbai for further awareness activities and received a welcome from the State Reserve Police Force of Maharashtra.
On October 25, the contingent continued its journey into Gujarat, conducting an interaction with students at Anil Naik Technical Training Centre in Kharel. At Sanskar Campus, Baleshwar College, in Palsana, the team engaged students, NCC cadets and local residents in discussions on the harmful effects of drug abuse and the need for collective responsibility in addressing the problem.
The rally is scheduled to conclude at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on October 31 with a Grand Parade Performance organised as part of National Unity Day celebrations.
The campaign carries its anti-drug message across educational institutions, police training facilities and local communities, urging people to reject substance abuse and support efforts to build a drug-free India.
