Sri Vijaya Puram, October 21: Students and local communities in Maharashtra are being reached through an anti-drug awareness campaign led by an Andaman and Nicobar Police contingent participating in the National Motorcycle Rally–2026, which is travelling towards Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, for its scheduled culmination on October 31.
The campaign focuses on raising awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging young people to make informed choices, adopt healthy lifestyles and avoid substance use. During the journey, the contingent has interacted with students at Nagnath High School in Mohale and S. B. Patil Educational Campus in Vanagali, extending the “Fight Against Drugs” message through educational institutions and local communities.
The overall rally was flagged off from Cellular Jail in Sri Vijaya Puram on October 10 by Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma. The Andaman and Nicobar Police contingent joined the rally in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on October 14. The nationwide initiative promotes national unity, social responsibility and awareness about drug abuse, with the teams scheduled to converge at Ekta Nagar in connection with National Unity Day.

The contingent comprises 12 police personnel travelling on five motorcycles under the leadership of Inspector Vishal Ram. On October 20, the team departed from Solapur for Daund in Maharashtra’s Pune Rural district, continuing its outreach activities along the route.
During a halt in Solapur on October 19, the contingent observed a rest day and visited the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Siddheshwara Temple and the statue of Dr B. R. Ambedkar. The team also received a felicitation from the Superintendent of Police, Solapur, in recognition of its participation in the rally and its public awareness campaign.
The outreach programme seeks to highlight the role of students, parents, educational institutions and the wider public in preventing drug abuse. It also emphasises responsible decision-making among young people as part of efforts to protect the younger generation from substance abuse.
The contingent is scheduled to continue towards Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, where the National Motorcycle Rally–2026 will conclude on October 31, coinciding with the observance of National Unity Day.
