Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 28: Anti-Narcotics Police have arrested a 35-year-old man and seized 26 milligrams of suspected methamphetamine, locally known as “Pather”, from a car during a raid near Sea Cliff Hotel on Sea Shore Road, Mazzar Pahad, Sri Vijaya Puram.
Police identified the arrested man as Y. Durga Ram, a resident of South Point, Mazzar Pahad. The arrest followed information received at about 8:40 PM on September 25 that Durga Ram would arrive near Sea Cliff Hotel in a white car bearing registration number AN01 S-1988 with suspected methamphetamine concealed inside the vehicle.
The information was entered in the General Diary of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station as G.D. Entry No. 17 dated September 25, 2026, and conveyed through a secret note to Deepender Kumar Singh, DANIPS, DySP (Narcotics). Acting on his directions, a team led by SI Manoj Lal was formed with ASI Sanjay Yadow, HC(SG)/1173 Ratan Das, PC/2836 M. Raja Rao and PC/339 Basharat Ali.
The team reached Sea Shore Road near Sea Cliff Hotel at about 9:05 PM with an investigation kit, electronic weighing machine, drug detection kit, searchlight and other documents required for the proceedings.
Before the search, police secured the presence of two independent witnesses, Ramzan Ahmed, 35, of Shadipur, Sri Vijaya Puram, and Mujammel Haoque, 18, of Shadipur near Government Secondary School. Both agreed to witness the proceedings.
At about 9:45 PM, the police intercepted the identified vehicle while it was travelling from Mazzar Pahad towards Flag Point. After identifying themselves and informing the driver about the information concerning suspected drug possession, police obtained his permission to search the car.
The search led to the recovery of a small transparent white polythene packet from the dashboard. Police said it contained a white crystalline substance, which Durga Ram identified as “Meth”. A preliminary examination using a Drug Detection Kit indicated the presence of methamphetamine, according to the police report. Weighing conducted in the presence of the independent witnesses put the substance at 26 milligrams.
Police then secured the seized material in paper, placed it inside a light-green envelope and sealed it at the spot using a brass seal marked “ML”. They prepared the seizure memo and label and obtained the signatures of the witnesses and accused after reading out the contents. The brass seal was subsequently handed to Ramzan Ahmed.
At about 10:40 PM, police arrested Durga Ram after completing the prescribed legal formalities for an alleged offence under Section 22(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Police said the grounds of arrest and information about the arrest were communicated to his wife, Karishma Biswas.
ASI Sanjay Yadow recorded the search and seizure proceedings through the e-Sakshya application. The police team later returned to the Anti-Narcotics Police Station with Durga Ram and the seized material, which was deposited in the station’s Malkhana at about 11:10 PM through the prescribed forwarding memorandum.
Further investigation is underway.
