Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 28: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been placed under a heavy rainfall alert for September 28, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of intense showers as several parts of the country remain under weather alerts.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in isolated areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Monday. The alert comes alongside similar warnings for Uttarakhand and South Interior Karnataka, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected across several other states.
The weather department has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and parts of the Northeast. The warnings highlight the possibility of unsettled weather conditions across multiple regions on Monday.
In Uttarakhand, isolated areas are likely to receive heavy and intense showers, with thunderstorms and lightning also expected in several parts of the state. The IMD has warned that heavy rainfall could trigger landslides, waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
Telangana is likely to see thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph on Monday, along with isolated rainfall. The IMD has advised people to avoid taking shelter under trees during lightning activity. The state is expected to turn dry between September 29 and October 1.
In Andhra Pradesh, thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are forecast on Monday. Strong surface winds are likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema until October 1, while isolated rainfall may continue across both regions through the week.
The weather alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands comes as Delhi-NCR experiences cooler and cloudier conditions. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius after overnight rainfall, around 2.9 degrees below normal. Its air quality also improved, with the 24-hour average AQI at 53 on Sunday, in the ‘satisfactory’ category, before standing at 66 on Monday.
The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies in Delhi on Monday, with isolated rainfall possible before predominantly dry weather returns from September 29 through October 3.
