Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 28: A coordinated beach-cleaning exercise was held across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on World Tourism Day 2026 under the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign, bringing together residents, tourists, students and tourism stakeholders to address cleanliness at identified coastal locations.
The drive covered Marina Park, NSCB Island, Corbyn’s Cove, Burma Nallah, Chidiyatapu Beach, Wandoor Beach, Shoal Bay 19, North Bay Coral Island and Collinpur Beach, along with other beaches across the Islands.
The campaign sought to reinforce cleanliness and environmental responsibility at beaches while encouraging responsible tourism among visitors and local communities. The exercise also provided a platform for different sections of the public to participate directly in maintaining the coastal areas they use and visit.
Local residents, tourists, students and youth joined the campaign alongside tourism stakeholders and other concerned groups. Their participation formed part of the wider effort to keep the Islands’ beaches clean, green and free of plastic.
The beach-cleaning activity was organised as part of the World Tourism Day 2026 celebrations and the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign, linking the tourism observance with a public cleanliness initiative across multiple beach locations.
With participation extending beyond government and tourism-linked groups to include members of the public and students, the campaign focused on making cleanliness and responsible use of coastal spaces a shared community responsibility.
The coordinated exercise covered beaches in different parts of the Islands, including popular visitor destinations and other identified coastal sites, reflecting the campaign’s island-wide scope.
The initiative placed environmental responsibility alongside tourism-related activities, with the participating communities and visitors contributing to efforts aimed at maintaining cleaner and plastic-free beaches across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
