Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 23: South Andaman farmers received practical guidance on poultry and livestock management through two demonstrations conducted by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) under UT-ATMA, covering low-cost brooder management and silage preparation.
A demonstration on brooder management was held at the residence of Tulina Halder in Namunaghar, with five local farmers participating. The session focused on constructing a low-cost brooder and explained the importance of proper brooding during the early stages of a chick’s life to improve survival and growth.
The participating farmers also discussed various aspects of scientific poultry farming during the demonstration. To support better chick management at the farm level, the department provided waterers, feeders and poultry feed to the participants.
The second demonstration, on silage making, was conducted on September 19 at the residence of Ram Chander in Habdipur. Five local farmers participated in the programme, which focused on the preparation of silage and its role in cattle feeding.
The session demonstrated how green grass can be preserved as silage for use during the lean period, providing farmers with practical knowledge on maintaining feed availability. Participants also received guidance on other aspects of livestock feeding and farm management.
The two programmes addressed different stages of farm management, with the poultry demonstration concentrating on early chick care and the livestock session focusing on feed preservation and cattle nutrition. Both activities provided farmers with practical demonstrations aimed at improving management practices at the farm level.
