Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 15: A 21-year-old concrete road in Calicut, South Andaman, that had deteriorated significantly and was causing difficulties for residents is being renovated along with a protection wall, following a long-standing demand from villagers.
Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Adhyaksh P. Ummer inspected the ongoing work on September 15 along with Zilla Parishad members S. Boominathan of Beodnabad and A. Ummer of Wimberlygunj, Kanyapuram Gram Panchayat Pradhan P. Abdul Bashir and engineering officials of the Zilla Parishad.
The work covers renovation of the CC road from the village road to Palani House, including construction of a protection wall near Chellaiah House at Ward No. 06 in Calicut.
The existing road, which was constructed around 21 years ago, had suffered considerable deterioration and reached a highly depleted condition, according to the Zilla Parishad. The condition of the road had inconvenienced local residents, who had sought its renovation for a long period.
The Zilla Parishad has now taken up the work in response to the demand. During the site inspection, Ummer reviewed the progress and instructed the engineering officials to maintain the quality of execution and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
The inspection also covered the ongoing work on the protection wall, which forms part of the project. The road and wall are intended to improve road safety, durability and connectivity for residents in the area.
The Zilla Parishad said its Engineering Wing has continued executing the work despite constraints, including adverse weather conditions.
The inspection comes as the local body oversees the implementation of the road renovation project and monitors its progress at the site.
The project covers an existing stretch that has served the locality for more than two decades, with the present renovation aimed at addressing its deteriorated condition and improving its usability for residents.
