28 Kg Suspected Venison Seized in Diglipur, Three Handed Over for Wildlife Protection Act Action

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 01: Around 28 kg of suspected venison was seized near Subashgram after Diglipur Police intercepted three persons allegedly linked to its illegal transportation and sale on August 30, with the matter handed over to the Forest Department for legal action.

The interception followed information received by Police Station Diglipur concerning the alleged illegal movement and sale of wildlife meat. During checking, personnel recovered the suspected venison from the three persons and seized it.

Police subsequently informed the Forest Department about the seizure. The three persons and the recovered material were then handed over to the department for initiation of proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

The case places the alleged possession, transportation and sale of wildlife meat within the scope of enforcement under the wildlife protection law. The source did not provide the identities of the three persons or details of any charges filed against them beyond the proposed legal action by the Forest Department.

The seizure took place in Subashgram during checking conducted by a team from PS Diglipur. The suspected venison was measured at approximately 28 kg before it was handed over along with the persons to the Forest Department.

The development also involved coordination between the police and Forest Department, with the latter taking over the matter for action under the applicable provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act.

The authorities have also appealed to members of the public to share credible information concerning crimes or illegal activities with the nearest police station or through the designated emergency contact numbers, 100 or 112. The authorities said informants’ identities would remain confidential and that suitable rewards would be provided for actionable information.
