Sri Vijaya Puram, May 9:
In a spirited celebration of health and community fitness, the Directorate of Sports, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, successfully organized a 5 Km Run and a 3 Km Walkathon today, attracting hundreds of enthusiastic citizens from across the islands.

The event, part of the Administration’s ongoing ‘Fitness-for-All’ campaign, was flagged off early in the morning by the Chief Secretary, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, who also laced up his shoes to join participants in the 5 Km Run. The gesture added symbolic weight and inspired many to take part, regardless of age or background.

Starting as early as 5 am, the 5 Km Run began from Chatham Bridge (Saw Mill Gate), while the 3 Km Walkathon, specially curated for citizens above 50 years of age, kicked off from Phoenix Bay Power House Chowk. Both events concluded at the historic Netaji Stadium, a fitting backdrop for the high-energy culmination.

The scenic route of the run and walk passed through key city landmarks like Sea Shore Road, Megapode Junction, the Clock Tower, and the Gandhi Statue, providing a refreshing and picturesque experience for participants. The vibrant ambiance, combined with clear weather and community camaraderie, created a festive fitness atmosphere.

Men, women, children, and senior citizens participated with equal zeal, dressed in workout gear and driven by a shared goal, embracing a healthier lifestyle. Officials from the A&N Administration also joined the movement, underlining the government’s commitment to holistic public well-being.

Seamless logistics, safety arrangements, and hydration support were managed efficiently by the Directorate of Sports, ensuring a smooth experience for all involved. Volunteers and police personnel were stationed throughout the route to guide and support the runners and walkers.

As the event concluded, a medal distribution ceremony was held at Netaji Stadium, where Chief Secretary Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Director General of Police Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, and other senior officials awarded medals to the top finishers in both categories. Their presence and participation received applause from the public.

The initiative was widely praised as a meaningful and action-driven step towards cultivating fitness awareness across the Union Territory. Participants and onlookers alike expressed appreciation for the Administration’s efforts in fostering both community engagement and physical wellness.

With such enthusiastic participation, the ‘Fitness-for-All’ run has not only set a positive tone for future events but also reaffirmed the A&N Administration’s dedication to building a healthier and more active society.
