Sri Vijaya Puram, October 28: Implementation of earlier administrative directions, challenges in executing NH-4 works and infrastructure gaps affecting maritime transport featured in separate meetings held by Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma with senior officials and shipping sector representatives on October 27.
At Lok Niwas, Sharma reviewed matters concerning health, education, tourism and transport with Chief Secretary Gyanesh Bharti, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, the Secretaries for Education and Health, and other senior officers. He assessed progress on directions issued at previous meetings and instructed officials to make arrangements for the upcoming Janata Darshan programme.
The review covered four key administrative sectors, although the administration did not specify the individual projects examined, the progress recorded or any deadlines set for pending work.

In a separate meeting, officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) briefed the Lieutenant Governor on construction progress along NH-4 and difficulties encountered during execution.
The delegation included NHIDCL Director Yogesh Chandra Srivastava, Executive Director Prabhat Kumar Singh and other officials. Sharma assured the team of all possible support from the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. However, the meeting details did not specify the nature of the construction challenges, the status of individual stretches or any revised completion timelines.
Shipping infrastructure and passenger facilities also featured in discussions with a delegation from the Andaman Ship Owners Association, which raised issues affecting maritime transport across the islands.
The association highlighted the need to strengthen basic infrastructure at jetties and improve passenger amenities. It also discussed measures to make maritime transport more convenient, safe and efficient ahead of the upcoming tourist season.
The delegation apprised Sharma of challenges faced by the shipping sector, although the administration’s account did not identify specific jetties requiring improvements, quantify infrastructure gaps or detail proposed measures to address the concerns.
The discussions brought administrative implementation, highway construction and maritime connectivity into focus, with the meetings addressing both departmental functioning and infrastructure concerns relevant to transport across the islands.
The administration’s account did not specify follow-up deadlines or measurable targets for the issues raised during the NHIDCL and ship owners’ meetings. Details on the outcomes of the sectoral review, beyond the directions concerning Janata Darshan, were also not provided.
