AH&VS Holds Poultry Health Demo, Veterinary Infertility Camp in South Andaman

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 25: Livestock farmers in South Andaman received hands-on guidance on poultry vaccination and deworming, alongside veterinary treatment for reproductive health issues in cattle, during two field-level programmes conducted by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS).

The poultry demonstration was organised in collaboration with UT-ATMA under Prothrapur Block at the field of K. Komu in Calicut village. The programme focused on practical aspects of poultry health management, including deworming methods, vaccination procedures and the recommended vaccination schedule.

Farmers were given detailed information on how to administer vaccines to poultry birds, followed by a practical demonstration of the technique. The programme was aimed at providing farmers with direct exposure to the procedures involved in maintaining poultry health.

As part of the programme, 109 Vanaraja chicks, each two weeks old, were distributed as inputs to the participating farmers.

The demonstration was conducted by the Senior Veterinary Officer from Veterinary Hospital, Garacharma, with the assistance of Veterinary Compounders. The Block Technology Manager (BTM) also attended the programme.

A separate Veterinary Infertility Camp was conducted at Humfrygunj on the same day, focusing on the reproductive health of livestock.

Veterinary personnel examined six animals during the camp. Two animals required treatment, with one diagnosed with Post-Parturition Anoestrus and another with Underdeveloped Genitalia.

The animals received treatment based on their respective conditions. Deworming medicines, Mineral Mixture and Ovimin Bolus were also provided during the camp.

The two programmes addressed different aspects of livestock management, with the poultry session concentrating on preventive health practices and the veterinary camp dealing with reproductive health concerns in cattle.

The field activities form part of the AH&VS Department’s continuing programmes for livestock farmers, covering technical guidance, animal treatment and practical demonstrations.

The department conducts such programmes to provide farmers with technical support related to poultry farming and livestock health. The activities also include demonstrations and treatment camps at the field level.

The poultry programme provided farmers with practical information on vaccination and deworming, while the infertility camp enabled veterinary personnel to examine animals and provide treatment and supportive inputs.

The department said it would continue organising demonstration programmes and veterinary treatment camps for the farming community in the Islands.
