North and Middle Andaman Registers 13 NDPS Cases, 5 Accused Convicted

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 25: According to official information, the registered cases have led to the seizure of approximately 6.2 kg of suspected ganja, six cannabis plants, 2.7 grams of methamphetamine and 5 grams of heroin. Authorities said the investigations are continuing to determine the alleged supply chains, linkages and wider network connected to those arrested.

The district has reported one accused person arrested in each of the 13 registered cases. Officials said investigators are examining the available evidence to identify other individuals who may be connected with the alleged narcotics trade.

As part of the legal proceedings in the registered cases, five accused persons have so far been convicted by the courts. The convictions resulted in terms of imprisonment and a combined fine of ₹26,000, according to the official data.

The remaining cases continue to be under investigation, with authorities working to establish the alleged source, movement and distribution of the seized substances.

The seizures reported in the district include different categories of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances covered under the NDPS Act. Officials have not released additional details regarding the individual cases or the locations where the recoveries were made.

Authorities said surveillance and patrol activities are continuing across the district as part of ongoing efforts to detect offences related to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The official figures provide an overview of the district’s NDPS enforcement up to August 2026, while further action in the pending cases will depend on the outcome of the investigations and subsequent legal proceedings.

Authorities have also appealed to residents to report suspected illegal drug-related activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency helpline numbers 100 and 112.

According to the official advisory, the identity of informants providing actionable information will be kept confidential, and suitable rewards will be provided in eligible cases.

The investigations into the registered NDPS cases remain ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine evidence relating to the alleged trafficking network behind the seizures.
