Congress Launches Organisational Revamp in South Andaman, Invites Applications for DCC President

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 5: The Indian National Congress has formally launched its nationwide Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (SSA) in South Andaman as part of a countrywide organisational restructuring exercise, with the release of application forms for the post of President of the South Andaman District Congress Committee (DCC).

Addressing a press conference in Sri Vijaya Puram, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) observer said the campaign is part of the Congress leadership’s decision to designate the current period as the “Year of Organisation” and the “Year of Reorganisation.” The initiative, approved during the party’s Ahmedabad session under the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, seeks to revitalise the party’s grassroots organisational structure across India.

According to the observer, more than 1,000 District Congress Committees exist across the country, and nearly 700 have already undergone the organisational restructuring process under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan. The primary objective is to empower District Congress Committee presidents while also making them accountable for the functioning and growth of the organisation in their respective districts.

As part of the exercise, senior Congress leaders, including current MLAs, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders, former secretaries, current AICC secretaries, former ministers and Members of Parliament, have been deputed to districts across the country to oversee the process.

The observer said the first phase of the programme involves consultations at the block level, during which party workers and local leaders will be invited to share their views and feedback. The inputs collected from these interactions will be submitted to the AICC in New Delhi, where the final decision on the appointment of the DCC president will be taken.

Following the appointment of the DCC president, executive committees at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) level will be constituted, with every office-bearer being assigned clearly defined roles and responsibilities.

The observer emphasised that the ongoing exercise is only the first stage of a broader organisational overhaul. After the District Congress Committees are restructured, similar exercises will be undertaken for Mandal Committees, Village Committees and Block Congress Committees.

The campaign, the observer said, draws its ideological inspiration from Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, with the broader objective of building a stronger grassroots organisation and nurturing a new generation of political leadership. The party aims to identify emerging leaders from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minorities, women, Other Backward Classes and other sections of society.

Appealing to Congress workers in South Andaman, the observer urged them to actively participate in the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan and work collectively to make the initiative successful. The process, the observer said, is monitored daily by the AICC, with all activities being conducted strictly in accordance with organisational guidelines issued by the party’s central leadership.

The application form for the post of South Andaman DCC President was officially released during the press conference. Interested candidates have been asked to obtain or download the form, complete it and submit it to the designated authority. Limited printed copies were made available, with a request for wider circulation among party workers.

The organisational programme in South Andaman will be conducted in two phases. Party leaders have already finalised visits to several blocks and scheduled meetings with senior Congress leaders until August 7. The observer said these interactions are intended to assess the present state of the South Andaman DCC, understand challenges faced by the organisation and gather suggestions for strengthening the party in the district.

Concluding the address, the observer expressed confidence that the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan would help reinforce the Congress organisation in South Andaman while laying the foundation for a new generation of leadership.
