Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 5: The Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), North and Middle Andaman, conducted a drug abuse awareness and counselling programme for employees of the State Transport Service (STS) in Mayabunder, with the initiative focusing on substance abuse prevention, responsible driving and the promotion of a healthy, drug-free workplace.

The programme brought together Drivers, Conductors, Workshop Staff and other State Transport Service employees to raise awareness about the harmful effects of alcohol and substance abuse. It was organised to encourage responsible driving practices while promoting a workplace environment free from substance abuse.

Resource persons highlighted the health, social and economic consequences associated with alcohol and substance abuse. The sessions focused on creating awareness among employees about the wider impact of substance abuse while encouraging informed and responsible choices in both personal and professional settings.

The programme also familiarised participants with the counselling, treatment and rehabilitation services offered through IRCA, enabling employees to understand the support mechanisms available for individuals affected by substance abuse.

Speakers urged participants to contribute towards building a drug-free and responsible society by supporting efforts to prevent substance abuse and promote healthier lifestyles. The awareness initiative combined information on prevention, road safety and rehabilitation services with counselling support to reinforce the importance of maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for employees of the State Transport Service.

The programme formed part of IRCA’s efforts in North and Middle Andaman to spread awareness about substance abuse, encourage responsible behaviour and promote access to counselling and rehabilitation services among workplace communities.
